Ground. Those interested in WMA/HEMA use and history are always trying to manoeuvre on it, dig around in it, or landing on it … usually with somebody’s assistance! With somebody’s enthusiastic assistance.

OTTAWA CITIZEN (Ontario) July 13 Medieval Festival in Osgoode a smashing good time (Gemma Karstens-Smith)
Zach Lovering was one of Knights of Valour full contact jousters doing his thing a half hour down the road from Us as part of the Osgoode annual Medieval Festival. Though there was a script that they follow to get things underway, once the steeds turn-about to start their charge … the joust turned ‘real’ – and the winner was not pre-ordained!
“It basically just feels like running into a wall. You feel all the armour on this side shake. You hear crashing and ringing,” Lovering says, … “It’s a healthy mix of adrenalin and a little bit of fear. It’s courage.”

CHESTER CHRONICLE (UK) 04 July 13 ‘Arrow man’ probe by archaeologists at dig site near Chester
Yes, We’re going there … digging around in the ground has yielded the fourth of very rare 16cm-long iron, medieval (1280-1320) arrow heads.
Of concurrent interest, We’re always intrigued by the assessments that experts can make about the wit, character and spleen of warriors dug up so many centuries after their passing … in this case, they speculate that the arrow-struck fatality was hit while aiming ‘up’ at someone.
Archeologists can re-build an entire battle. While We are challenged trying to remember the high points of Our last bout!

FORSKNING (Oslo, Norway) 09 July 13 Fant sølvknapp fra vikingtiden
So, you’ve just found a dozen swords buried together in the back yard.
Have you uncovered:
1. The site of some battle;
2. The remains of an armoury; or
3. A medieval shopping mall.
Archeologists digging up a highway route near Trondheim have discovered what they think to be the near-mythological Norse trading site of Steinkjer. Of note to Us is that no less that twenty-two ‘Viking H swords’ were uncovered on the site.
