Parrying Workshop with Luis Preto!

Saturday, July 21st, 2012 3pm-7pm

Academie Duello is proud to host a longsword workshop not-to-be-missed with guest instructor Luis Preto from Preto Martial Arts!

The seminar will be focused on the art of distance management and cover as it appears in a variety of European martial arts with the focus on the longsword. Preto's system is remarkably efficient and well-developed and is certain to benefit combatants of any background. The seminar will feature strategies for facing multiple opponents as well as single combat.

Luis Preto, a black waistband in Lusitan Fencing (Jogo do Pau), has taught and competed in many international WMA events, including a multiple opponents work shop at CNAT 2011.

He holds a Master's degree in Sports Training, is certified as a fitness trainer by the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) and has published several books about WMA including the very useful Understanding and Developing Footwork in Fencing Martial Arts.

Devon Boorman is the Co-Founder and Director of Academie Duello Centre for Swordplay, which has been active in Vancouver, Canada since 2004. Devon’s expertise centres on the Italian swordplay tradition including the arts of the Renaissance Italian rapier, sidesword, and longsword, as well as knife and unarmed techniques.
