Our Mounted Combat Program has made a huge leap forward! The horses, the program, and the Program Head, have moved to Cornwall Ridge Farm in Langley BC. The farm, which covers 12 acres on 16 Avenue near Campbell Valley Park, is ideally equipped to suit the needs of the program, and provide greater comfort for our students and horses.
- Two outdoor and one indoor ring give us triple the lesson space and shelter from the elements for year-round lessons.
- Well-drained paddocks with three-sided shelters will keep our horses out of the mud even in the middle of winter.
- A heated rider lounge overlooking the arena provides a place for lectures, auditing, or just relaxing with a cup of tea after class.
- Warm-water wash stalls and heat lamps pamper our ponies, and acres of well-drained pasture let horses be horses all year round.
Of course there are downsides too. We are no longer conveniently close to a bus stop like we were in Richmond, and we realize not everyone has access to a car. However, we are hoping to get some organized carpooling going on, and we've changed the format of Mounted Combat Mastery to twice-monthly instead of weekly to ease the transport burden (more on that next week). This also allows us to offer more frequent clinics and workshops, such as Horseback Archery, Classical Riding, and Intro to Mounted Combat. And speaking of which ...
Intro to Mounted Combat
The first Intro course at the new location is happening this Sunday September 23rd. Here's your chance to dip your toe into the Mounted Combat Program, and get a taste of swordplay from horseback. The course is suitable for complete beginner and advanced riders alike (groups will be separated by riding ability). Beginners will have handlers working one-on-one and leading their horses, while more experienced riders will do drills that require more sophisticated horse skills. Spaces are limited to 8, so sign up soon!
